God and Country

Mark 12:17 says, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s (Jesus). Politics has always contained a potential for a negative response from Christians.

We all seem to have an agenda, and it rarely coincides with God’s agenda, but it is amazing how often it has to do with me.

I find it interesting, during this presidential election year, to read many of the social media posts from my brothers and sisters in Christ.

I guess a number of us think it’s OK to lay aside the be ye kind scriptures when it comes to sharing our political opinions.

It also disappoints me to see how often we don’t do our homework or due diligence in ascertaining that which we post is actually true. But how important is that, really? Well, maybe as followers of the truth, the way, and the life, truth should be important to us.

We do have dual-citizenship in this world. What does that mean for me? What it means, is centered in five biblical truths:

  1. Pay taxes

  2. Obey the law (unless it conflicts with God’s Word)

  3. Honor police/leaders/authorities

  4. Do good to everyone

  5. PRAY (especially for those in authority)

I love my country. It is my desire to respect my nation with my words and my life. But more importantly than that, I desire to honor my LORD with all that I have and all that I am. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. (Romans 13:1)

Come and join us for worship this Sunday, 11:00 am (EDT).
