The New Prairie FFA, in conjunction with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), conducted the inaugural high school commercial meat pen show at New Prairie High School.
The FFA chapters in attendance (New Prairie and Park Heritage) split the awards with Park Heritage winning the meat pen contest and New Prairie winning the fryer class.
This project started this past year at New Prairie High School when Allison Horvath, a New Prairie student, asked if the New Prairie FFA Chapter would be interested in helping the ARBA establish a high school contest for the State of Indiana.
Mark Stone, FFA advisor, along with the administration, decided that this effort would be an excellent program to start in the new small animal handling room in the high school agriculture department.
The New Prairie FFA chapter will continue this project into the future and would like to expand the program to 50 – 60 school in Indiana.
