The Busy Band Buzz: Spring Concerts
After a successful Trivia Night, we are approaching our goal to pay for the new marching band uniforms. In only our third year, we had a record number of tables filled with trivia players. A huge thank you goes out to all of our area businesses and individuals that donated items for our silent auction, all the auction bidders, and everyone that came out to enjoy the evening.
The uniforms are all made and ready for delivery as soon as we are able to make the final payment. As we wind down the school year, we look toward our final concerts of the season.
The final spring concert for the 2018-19 school year will be held Wednesday, May 8 at 6pm school time at the La Porte Civic Auditorium ($3 adults/$2 students).
The construction and remodeling projects at New Prairie are moving forward, and demolition is underway in the auditorium and band and choir rooms. Since our bands and choirs are currently without a home, the spring concerts will be held off-site. Our kids are looking forward to performing in a new venue. Wouldn’t it be a great way to close out the school year and end this era of New Prairie Band history by filling the historic Civic Auditorium?
This concert will include performances by the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, as well as senior awards and recognition. Please come out and help our kids celebrate the conclusion of another school year of hard work and great success.
The New Prairie Jazz Band will also be hosting its second annual Jazz In The Park on Saturday, May 11 at 2pm (3pm town time). This will not only be our second annual community event, but also our last donation drive specified for the purchase of the new band uniforms. Admission to this event will be free, but we will be selling concessions, band spirit wear, and accepting donations.
This fun afternoon of music will include performances by the New Prairie Middle School Jazz Band, New Prairie High School Jazz Band, and a special appearance by our featured guest Down By the Dock. As this is the day before Mother’s Day, this will be a great afternoon of good music to be enjoyed by mom and the entire family. Just as one school year concludes, the next is soon to come when you are in band. The New Prairie Marching Cougars season kick-off will be Thursday, May 16 at 6pm school time in the middle school cafeteria.
At this event, parade tunes are revealed, the theme of the Fall 2019 competitive show is announced, as well as section leaders and drum majors. This event is highly anticipated by all members of the Marching Cougars. We look forward to seeing you all at our final events of the year, as well as our parades and other summer events. School may be August to May, but band is all year. GO COUGARS!
