The New Prairie Marching Cougars finished their season proudly performing their show “Breathe” on the football field at Pike High School’s stadium for the ISSMA Semi-State Competition.
Although not receiving a score high enough to continue on to the finals, the Marching Cougars once again proudly represented our school and community.
Merely making it to Semi-State was quite an accomplishment for our young, building program. Not only are the schools competing with New Prairie considerably larger, but the bands are also much bigger. Some schools competing in open class ‘B’ include: Plymouth, Elkhart Memorial, Elkhart Central, Northridge, Munster, New Palestine, Pendleton Heights, Greenwood, Greenfield Central, just to provide some examples of our competition.
Our kids did not let that intimidate them though. New Prairie finished their season with a score twelve points higher than they did last year. What an accomplishment to finish out the season with such a respectable score at such a high level of competition.
Months of hard work have definitely paid off for the Marching Cougars this season. As the Cougars left the field at Pike High School, they were met at the gate by their Principal, Jenn Sass and Superintendent Dr. Paul White.
Both administrators were there to not only see the show and cheer on our kids, but they were also right at the gate exiting the field to greet them and congratulate them on a great season. With such an awesome end to their season, what better way to return home than with a hometown celebration to welcome them back.
A huge thank you to the members of the New Carlisle Fire Department who came out late to fire up the trucks to honor our kids as we drove through town on our way to the school.
Also thank you to everyone from the community who came out to line the street and cheer for our kids as we came through town as well. The support the band receives from the school and community means the world to our kids.
Though the marching season has come to an end, the busy band season continues: basketball pep band, jazz band, concert band, indoor percussion, solo and ensemble. I’m sure I’ve missed something, but you get the idea.
Our kids work hard all year round. Upcoming events include the New Prairie Jazz Band in the Christmas in New Carlisle parade, and our annual holiday concert December 12 at 6:00 school time in the high school auditorium.
Also, don’t forget to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Thanksgiving morning and look for New Prairie’s very own Jacob Sherrick. We are so proud to have a little bit of the “Sound of Cougar Pride” on the streets of New York City once again this year!
