Fall Programs at St. Joseph County Parks

Indiana Master Naturalist Program of St. Joseph County St. Joseph County Parks is sponsoring the Indiana Master Naturalist Program series for St. Joseph County. The program begins September 6 and ends November 1.

The Indiana Master Naturalist Program consists of one introductory session and 10, 3-hour sessions focusing on Indiana’s natural resources.

The course includes sessions on botany, zoology, geology/soils, water, people and natural resources. Sessions will take place in various locations throughout St. Joseph County.

The program concludes with an open book quiz. Participation is required in 80% of the sessions to receive certification, along with a commitment of one hour of volunteer service per hour of coursework.

Program is limited to 25 participants 18 years or older. The tuition fee is $175 and is due no later than August 31. To register call Bendix Woods at 574/654-3155.

Bag a Bat Program at St. Patrick’s County Park St. Joseph County Parks will be hosting an evening with the “bats” at St. Patrick’s County Park on Thursday September 6, at 7:30 at the Red Barn. Jeremy Sheets, Senior Wildlife Biologist will be discussing the bats found in Indiana and mist netting bats. Participants will also enjoy a bat nana split while watching bats exit the Red Barn at dusk. This program is geared towards families.

Program fee is $3/person. Pre-registration and payment required by September 4.

Morning Prairie Walk for adults at Bendix Woods County Park Bendix Woods County Parks is hosting a morning prairie walk for adults on Wednesday, September 12 at 10:00am. Come explore the beauty of the early autumn prairie. We’ll look at blooming flowers, seedpods and insect activity. Participants should meet at the Nature Center. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. There is no fee to attend this program, but registration is required by Monday, September 10.

Reservations have begun for Fall Group Hayrides at Bendix Woods County Park Reservations for two-hour day or evening private party hayrides are available Wednesday - Sunday, end of September through November 4th. Beginning times are 1pm, 3:30pm, 6pm or 8:30pm. The fee for private party hayrides is $120.00 for up to 80 people. The fee includes tractor-drawn hayrides and a campfire at the hayride site. A picnic shelter or building is NOT included. However, on a limited basis, and with an additional fee, you can rent a nearby shelter or building.

Hayride reservation packet may be printed off the St. Joseph County Park’s website or request by mail by calling 574/654-3155.

Once you complete the hayride reservation packet, you may return it with payment in the mail to: St. Joseph County Parks, Hayride Reservations, 32132 SR 2, New Carlisle, IN 46552.

Reservations are confirmed only when payment is received.
