They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, we are seeing that it takes an entire community to dress a band. With every event we have had to raise money for our new marching band uniforms the community has come out to support our kids.
Thanks to a very successful weekend at Hometown Days, we are almost halfway to reaching our goal. As our first large class of middle school band members will become rookies next year, we must have the new uniforms for the 2019-20 school year in order to have enough uniforms for our growing band.
We owe a huge thank you to everyone in the community that stopped by our booth to buy a t-shirt, mug, or dunk our enthusiastic volunteers in the dunk tank. As a booster group, we expect our directors, drum majors, parents, and former Marching Cougars to be supportive and volunteer to put in some time in the dunk tank. This year, we had some willing volunteers from the community also volunteer to help us out.
First of all, we would like to thank our NPMS Assistant Principal Justin Heinold, NPHS teacher Christy Pietrzak, and assistant football coach Bill Gumm for serving their time in the dunk tank. It is always awesome when all of the New Prairie staff helps to support the programs at the school.
Also a huge thank you to town councilman Jordon Budreau and Police Chief Cal Dittmar for volunteering themselves for time in the dunk tank as well.
The community support for the band was not limited to our dunk tank volunteers. Kate O’Connor’s Irish Pub did a three day give back for the band, covering all three days of the festival.
Also, the New Carlisle United Methodist Church partners with the band for the Hometown Days weekend as well. Our band parents help the church staff their food booth, and they generously donate a portion of their proceeds to the band.
Support from the entire community is the only way we will reach our goal and be able to order these new uniforms, which need to be ordered this February to have them in time for the 2019-20 fall season.
Upcoming events for our Marching Cougars include our competition season and football season. Competitions for this year include Goshen, Concord, Penn, Plymouth, Chesterton….maybe more (more to come on that in upcoming issues).
We have several home football games this season featuring a new pre-game show, our competitive show at half-time, and stand tunes to entertain you during the game. So, come out and support our New Prairie football team, support our band boosters by visiting the concession stand, and see the results of the hard work put in by both our band kids and football players. Hope to see you at the game! GO COUGARS!
