National Military Appreciation Month
May is National Military Appreciation month. I would like to thank all service personnel and American Legion members out there for their service to our country. Also, I would like to thank the members for their support in voting for me as your new commander.
Our motto this year is “We Change Lives.” We will be changing the lives of six New Prairie High School junior boys this year. We the American Legion family at Post 297 are sponsoring them for American Legion Hoosier Boys State. They are as pictured: Tyler Bowen (unable to attend), Benjamin D. Swinhart, Joseph Henning, Christopher Huhnke (unable to attend), Dylan Frederick Rose, Thomas Eggleton and Conner Snyder. They will remember this opportunity for the rest of their lives.
The weeklong program will be held at Trine University in Angola on June 17-23. Thanks to all the American Legion family who helped sponsor this program.
Thanks to the Gleaner Mill Creek Arbor for their help in sponsoring this event. I would also like to thank Guidance Counselor Angela Ruby for her efforts in selecting these boys.
Sam Colalillo is the commander of American Legion Post 297.
