The President’s flip-flopping style even shows up in the animal protection field, more surprisingly, in a positive way.
Regarding trophy hunting, he tweeted: “Put big game trophy decision on hold... very hard pressed to change my mind that this horror show in any way helps conservation of elephants or any other animal.” His sons being notorious trophy hunters, to call trophy hunting a “horror show” just leaves one reeling.
We should all cultivate distaste for senseless killing. Due to technology, the globe has become our own backyard. When it comes to protecting endangered species, we should not twist the meaning of “dominion.” All living beings’ ecological services are immeasurable and we should guard and protect balance.
If Trump can call trophy hunting a horror show, so can we. Please visit AWI’s compassion index (www.compassionindex.org) for actions you can take to help move animal legislation through Congress and let the powers-that-be know you expect protection for wildlife to continue.
