IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament begins Jan. 30

The opening week’s pairings were announced on Sunday afternoon for the 43rd Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers.

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Jan. 30, and run through Saturday, Feb. 3, with the regional round slated for Feb. 10 and semi‐states on Feb. 17. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 24.

South Bend St. Joseph, last year’s Class 3A champion, has moved up to Class 4A for the next two seasons. New Prairie (3-15) faces conference foe Mishawaka Marian (15-4) in the first round. The Cougars and Knights squared off Monday, January 22 in regular season play after The Gazette went to press. Marian has defeated every other team in the Sectional this season.

Should the Cougars pull off an upset in the Sectional, they would face Jimtown (2-19) in the semifinals. The Cougars easily defeated the Jimmies on December 7, 49-22.

Saturday, February 3 Championship: Winner of G3 vs. Winner of G4, 7:30pm

Admission: $6 per session; $10 all sessions. Home Team: The second team listed in each game is the designated home team
