For the fifth time in program history, the New Prairie Cougars are Sectional Champions in football.
On Friday, November 3, New Prairie routed South Bend St. Joseph, 42-7, to claim the Class 4A Sectional crown.
Senior quarterback Nick Wilson once again led the Cougars with three rushing touchdowns, while sophomore running back Chase Ketterer scored two of his own.
Chris Mays found the end zone in the fourth quarter for the final New Prairie score of the night.
With their eleventh straight win of the season, the Cougars advanced to face undefeated Lowell in the Regional Championship on November 10.
At The Inferno, the Red Devils struck first with a touchdown, but missed the extra point. New Prairie answered with a Ketterer touchdown run from three yards out to take a 7-6 lead.
The Cougars surrendered a safety and a field goal before the half to fall down 11-7, but again responded with another Ketterer touchdown run to take a 14-11 lead.
Lowell’s Jordan Jusevitch scored two touchdowns in the second half to give the Red Devils a 25-14 advantage.
New Prairie fought until the end, as Wilson hit Ketterer for a 39-yard touchdown pass to cut it to 25-20.
After a failed onside kick attempt, the Cougars still forced a three-and-out to get the ball back. But the clock ran out on New Prairie’s last chance.
