Cultivating the Warrior Heart for God

We are in a battle in this world. We may not see it and we might forget it’s there.

Nevertheless, the Bible makes it clear that there is an enemy who would love to send our minds and hearts off into a direction of discouragement, despair and defeat.

If you are a believer who cares about living as salt and light in a dark world, you won’t go for long without encountering spiritual warfare - obstacles and attacks that the enemy hurls in your direction.

Jesus said in John 10:10 - “There is a thief (the enemy) who comes to steal, kill and destroy you but I have come to bring you life and life more abundantly to the full!”

God reminds us in His Word that for those who have a true heart for God there will be opportunities to also cultivate the heart of a warrior.

There will be times when God arms us with the Word of God to stand against the enemy’s lies.

He equips us with the Word of God to stand against the enemy’s lies. He equips us with strength, wisdom and discernment through His own Spirit to stay strong in the spiritual warfare battle.

He invites us to abide closely to Him in His Presence, through prayer and worship, pressing in to know Him more. Those with a heart for God put on the armor of God to grow as stronger warriors for God.

As they become stronger warriors, they stand against what is false and evil in the powerful name of Jesus.

He never leaves us to fend for ourselves in a dark world, but reminds us that He is the Ultimate Warrior who can live and reign inside of us through His Spirit and even surround us and go before us wherever we go! He is constantly fighting for us even when we cannot see.

Praying God’s words back to Him is a powerful weapon against the forces of evil. God guards our hearts and focuses our minds back on Him so He can lead us to win the battles in front of us!

Let these powerful truths from God’s Word encourage you to walk as a Warrior for Him:

2nd Corinthians 10:3-4 - The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

2 Samuel 22:3 - My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, My Savior.

Isaiah 23:11 - He has stretched His hand out over the sea, He has made the kingdoms tremble, the LORD has given a command concerning Canaan to demolish its strongholds.

Psalm 9:9 - The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed. A stronghold in times of trouble.

Psalm 27:1 - The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

Romans 8:37 - In all these things on earth, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
