Olive Chapel: What will you give your heart over to?

Virtually everything in our lives boils down to one truth: What will I give my heart over to? Who and what will take first place in the center of my life? How will I make decisions about what controls my heart?

But some of us immediately debate this by refusing and denying this truth and say, “But you don’t know the circumstances I’ve been dealing with in my life?” “You don’t know about the terrible challenges I face that are not my fault?” And so on. We all have a sad story to tell.

We have all discovered how life on earth is unfair and imperfect and how this is certainly not heaven yet down here in this broken world.

But through the good, bad and ugly of life, we still have the power to choose what controls and guides our minds and hearts. We still get to choose what we will fill our minds and hearts with and what will be the number one driving force in our lives. We can choose to be victims or we can choose to be victorious in the midst of all we face. As long as we are living and breathing, each day is a gift from God and we have the power to choose what will guide us and lead us.

The Bible says in Proverbs 4:23 - “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life!” Another translation says from it flows the wellsprings of life.

In other words, God wants you to protect what you choose to let into your heart. God wants you to be diligent in what you allow into the center place in your heart! If we fail to protect our hearts, we can slowly or rapidly self-destruct as we choose to allow unhealthy things into our hearts.

If we succeed in what we fill our hearts with, then God gives us “wellsprings of life” from Him that make us healthy, whole, content, joyful, happy and well. And we can say with the great Hymn - “It Is Well With My Soul.”

The Bible also makes it abundantly clear that there is only one thing that should take up First Place in your life and mine! And that is Jesus Christ Himself!

1 Peter 3:15 says, “Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.” This means to set apart Christ in your heart and give Him first place in your life. It means to revere Christ as Lord in your heart and over your heart. When we give our hearts to the One and Only Lord that we can trust and worship, He showers us with the most powerful and most beautiful resources available to man through His Holy Spirit and He makes our hearts all brand new, all so right and all so beautiful and free.

In John 14:23, Jesus said: “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them and we will come and make our home inside them!”

When we love God and follow Him, He makes His home in our hearts! He comes alive in us with His higher power and higher love and everything in our lives begins to change for the better! He is the Only One on earth who never fails us and is always Faithful to fill our hearts with great things! Now is the time to set your heart apart for Christ! Now is the time to be free! Now is the time to know life like never before that “It is Well With My Soul” - with your heart and soul as Christ alone brings forth breakthroughs and joys in your life that you never imagined could be possible. Give Him your heart and watch Him do a brand new beautiful work in your life!
