Who or what has your attention?

September 21, 2017

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that we are living in an age where the world around us seems to be unraveling at the fastest pace of all time!

Advances in technology and the internet have rapidly and dramatically changed life for all Americans.

Cell phones allow us to connect and make relationships with other and communications with people all over the globe quickly accessible.

Natural disasters are on the rise - with the recent earthquake in North Korea, the earthquake in Mexico, the fires in the west, Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma in our country and with the threats of wars and rumors of wars in hot spots throughout the world as nations rise up against other nations!

We are clearly living in the time that Jesus predicted in Matthew 24:6-8 - where all of these things would happen and would begin to happen more frequently and with more intensity!

God is trying to get the attention of people all over this world and especially in our own world - in our lives in the USA and in our small corner of the world here in the South Bend and New Carlisle area of the country.

There are many ways we could react and respond to the troubling news and realities around us.

We could deny it.  We could laugh it all off and just focus on our next entertainment adventure or a short vacation.  We could pretend it’s not happening.

But there is only one response that is our best response and that is to give our hearts to The One that wants our attention.

As one minister said, “From God you came, To God you belong and To God you will one day return.”

We are just passing through this world and there is Only One source that promises to be our Firm Foundation in a shaking world of trials and turbulence - that is Jesus Christ!  He is the only trusted and true unshakable foundation in life.  And He invites us to give our lives and our hearts to Him!

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (New Living Translation).  Another translation (English Standard Version) puts it this way:  “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

In other translations, this passage describes these beautiful and powerful springs of life inside of us as the “wellsprings” that literally makes us whole and free and well!

In John 16:33, Jesus said, “In this world you will have troubles and trials, but take heart for I have overcome the world.”

In the midst of this crazy, out-of-control world, there is only one true unfailing foundation and only one place to go for a power that fills us with a capacity greater than our own human strength and power - a power to overcome and rise above the fierce trials of the world around us.

God wants to fill our hearts with strength, power, confidence, faith, hope and love to the point that His own Spirit dwells in us and overflows us with His very own presence in troubled times.

Come join us this Fall 2017 at 10am every Sunday at Olive Chapel Church for our current worship series called “After God’s Own Heart” and find out how God can do a new and powerful work in your own heart and your own life in such a way as to give you defining moments that will shape you with all his very best as you allow your heart to be fashioned and shaped by Him.
