Members of the Kappa Rho Chapter of Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority celebrated the chapter’s 60th anniversary on Saturday, April 29 with a luncheon at Monroe’s Crossing in Hudson Lake.
Delta Theta Tau was founded in Muncie, Indiana by five high school girls in 1903. Their purpose was the advancement of philanthropy and charity.
Today more than 90 chapters nationwide continue to carry out their work.
Our local chapter, Kappa Rho, was chartered April 27, 1957. Since then they have supported the community with both monetary donations and volunteer hours.
Among their many ongoing projects are planting and maintaining a floral garden in New Carlisle’s Memorial Park, awarding scholarships to graduating New Prairie High School students, and donating their handmade Teddy Bears to Memorial Hospital and La Porte Hospital Emergency Rooms. Children who visit the ER receive a bear.
Many parents have said their little ones were comforted by having the bear to hug in a scary time. Since 1997, the members of Kappa Rho Chapter have made and donated over 11,000 bears.
Kappa Rho plans to continue their good works for many years to come.
