Recipes, Etc.

Since June is the typical bridal month, I will devote this article and the next to ideas for the brides.

Angel Dream Dessert 1 angel food cake mix or prepared cake 1 - 20 ounce can crushed pineapple, undrained 1 - 3 ounce package vanilla pudding mix (not instant) 1 pint whipping cream 1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries

Mix the pineapple and pudding mix in a heavy medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until very thick. Remove from heat. Cool and chill well.

Split the angel food cake into three layers. Whip the cream, adding confectioners sugar, and fold into the pineapple mixture, and add the chopped maraschino cherries.

Using a 9 x12 pan, spread generously between the layers of the cake and on the top of the dessert. Top with additional cherries and chopped walnuts. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Etc. — This dessert goes a long way and can be used as the dessert for your luncheon, or for that matter, any get together. It is light and oh so easy to prepare!

Ideas for your bridal shower: Bridal Shower Game: Set up a poster and place the bride’s pictures at different ages on the poster board, entitling it “How Old Was She.” Have all your guests write down the answers on a 3 x 5 card.

Set up a box for the bride-to-be entitled ”Words of Wisdom.” On a 3 x 5 card or whatever you choose, have each guest write a message to the bride with words of advice.

Make up a binder for the bride by asking all guests to write their favorite recipe and place it in the binder for the bride. (I received one of these booklets, and to this day, I cherish the recipes.)

Table Decorations: On the table runner, place glitter, pearls, and faux diamonds. Center with a wedding dress bouquet /vase floral arrangement (simple vase, tulle and a colored ribbon to match the bridal colors.)

Place the tulle around the upper part of the vase; adhering it by pressing it down with glue.

Above the tulle, encircle the vase with the ribbon to resemble a belt. You may want to add a small pin to the “belt” by gluing on the ribbon.

Place a bouquet of flowers in the vase. This makes a beautiful centerpiece. If you wish, you may make more of these “bouquets” and scatter them around the table.

Enjoy this beautiful time of the year!
