New Carlisle, Indiana, will once again be the center of the Wiffle®Ball Universe this summer, as Hometown Days will host The Wiffle®Ball Championship, July 29-30, 2017.
The 13th annual tournament is open to players of all ages and skill levels with slow-pitch or "pitch to hit" rules. The action-packed style of play features base running and opportunities for incredible defensive plays.
Teams consist of four or five players, with four players playing the field and an optional extra hitter allowed in the lineup.
All teams will be guaranteed four games, as pool play will run on Saturday, July 29 at the New Prairie Little League complex.
The top 48 teams will advance to Sunday's Hometown Cup Playoffs, a single-elimination tournament to determine the Champions of Wiffle®Ball.
The final four teams will meet at Migley Field for the Hometown Cup Finals, slated for a 1:20pm ET start.
Registration is only $40 before July 1, but the entry fee increases to $80 after. The final entry deadline is July 15 or when the tournament field fills up at 80 teams, whichever comes first.
The reigning champions, Son of a Pitch, hail from Indianapolis. Son of a Pitch went 9-0 in the 2016 Championship to take home the sport's most coveted trophy.
Over the years, teams from across North America have competed for a chance to hoist the Hometown Cup at the end of the festival weekend. States represented in past tournaments include: Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The Canadian province of Saskatchewan has also been represented.
Hometown Days will also be hosting a Home Run Derby the night before the tournament begins. The competition starts at 7:05pm ET on Friday, July 28 and will be followed by the Hometown Days Fireworks Spectacular. Cost to enter the Home Run Derby is $5 per person and is open to anybody.
