New Prairie Band Gets Opportunity to "Boiler Up!"

April 20, 2017

On Friday, January 27th, the Purdue pep band came to New Prairie to play with our band at the varsity basketball game.

For those who were in attendance at that game, the gym at “Our House” was rocking.  What an awesome evening to see approximately 170 band members playing together with the Purdue base drums lining the upper deck of our gym.

If the “Sound of Cougar Pride” combined with the sound of the Boilers weren’t enough to thrill New Prairie basketball fans, Purdue’s Silver Twins twirlers were also there to astonish the crowd at half time.

The fun of the basketball game was not the end of the collaboration between New Prairie and Purdue.

On March 30th, the New Prairie Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble went to Purdue for a music clinic.
The day involved sectional practices, where each band section (flutes, clarinets, trumpets, etc.) was able to work with specialists from Purdue’s music department to learn new techniques and improve on playing their specific instruments.

After lunch at Purdue Memorial Union, it was back to Elliot Hall of Music for full band rehearsals and a side-by-side rehearsal with Purdue’s concert band.

This was all made possible through Purdue’s Partners in Music Education Program.

On Tuesday, April 25th, the Purdue University Symphonic Band will come to New Prairie.

New Prairie Bands and Purdue Symphonic Band will perform a joint concert in our auditorium.  Purdue will play 3 selections and then our New Prairie Band will join them to play some side-by-side pieces.

The concert will begin at 7:00pm school time.  This is a free concert for all of the community.

Due to construction at the high school, guests should enter door S6, which is the entrance near the athletic office/auxiliary gym.  We will provide signs to help get you to the auditorium.

Let’s have a full house and show the Boilers how much the community loves “The Sound of Cougar Pride” and how much we appreciate them coming to “Boiler-Up” Our House!

Jazz Dinner Canceled
The New Prairie Band Boosters regrets to announce that the Jazz Dinner/Dance scheduled for April 22 has been canceled due to insufficient ticket sales.

For those who have purchased tickets, we thank you for your support.

As we still need to raise approximately $62,000 for new marching band uniforms, we will continue to have other fundraising events in the near future.  The continued support of the community is what makes our band great.
If you have purchased tickets and have not been contacted about a refund, please contact Shannon Kelley at 574-220-3299.
