The free and accepted Mason Excelsior Lodge #41, which is celebrating 179 years of Freemasonry in LaPorte, Indiana, is teaming up with the American Red Cross for its annual blood drive Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 9:00am to 2:00pm on the third floor at the Masonic Lodge located at 820 Jefferson Avenue in LaPorte, Indiana.
Joseph H. Villarreal, Worship Master, Lodge #41 said, “As F & A.M. working with the American Red Cross as a lifesaving partnership, it feels good to be part of neighbors helping neighbors in the time of need and helping to promote a cause that saves millions of lives each year.”
Donating blood is a meaningful way to volunteer in the community. Each donation can save as many as three lives.
“The American Red Cross empowers ordinary people from every walk of life to perform extraordinary acts of service, but they share one thing, a generous spirit and a desire to give back to their community and help others,” said Villarreal.
Summer is a difficult time to collect blood to meet patient’s needs. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with type O negative, A negative and B negative blood.
To give blood, donors must be 17 years of age, in good health and weight at least 110 pounds. A valid form of identification must be presented at the time of donation. Following the donation, refreshments will be served.
