Master Gardeners to Host 2017 Spring Garden Show

The La Porte County Master Gardeners invite the public and others interested in gardening to their Spring Garden Show on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Designed as a fun and informative day for the whole family, the Garden Show will be held at Michigan City High School, in Michigan City from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. CDT.

The cost for this event is only $10 per person payable at the door ($8 in advance at and children under 12 are free.

The Garden Show will feature a keynote speaker, seminars, children’s workshops, garden and food vendors plus door prizes and raffles.

The keynote speaker will be Gene Bush, well known as the shade gardener, writer, photographer and speaker from southern Indiana.

He will present “Down and Dirty on No/Low Maintenance Gardening” at 10:15 a.m. CDT and “Colorful Combinations for Shade Gardens” at 1:00 p.m. CDT.'

Other speakers presenting seminars will include:

Steve Sass, President of the Northern Indiana Chapter of Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society (INPAWS), will talk with us about “The Butterflies of Northern Indiana.”

Alicia Ebaugh, Educator for La Porte County Solid Waste District, will present on “Garbology – Talking Trash is Important.”

Marcy Dailey, Advanced Master Gardener, will tell us to “Take Thyme to Smell the Herbs.”

Karen Sarver, Master Gardener intern, will talk about “Gardening with Children.”

Fascinating workshops for children will teach them about the seed starting, backyard arachnology and how to build an underground rain garden.

Vendors marketing local and handcrafted items will be offering their wares all day long.

Participants can purchase beverages, breakfast and lunch from the Purdue Extension – La Porte County Extension Homemakers group, Homespun Harmony.

Folks are encouraged to bring the entire family to this all-day event at Michigan City High School located at 8466 West Pahs Road in Michigan City, Indiana, close to Exit 34 on I-94 at US 421.
