The New Prairie boys basketball team will hit the court tonight for one final tune-up before the State Tournament begins next week.
The Cougars (12-10, 5-6 NIC) will travel to South Bend Adams (17-4, 10-1 NIC) for the regular season finale. Varsity tip-off is slated for 7:30pm town time/6:30pm school time.
Adams will be playing for the Northern Indiana Conference title, while New Prairie will look to continue to stay hot heading into postseason play. The Cougars have won eight of their last 11 games.
Three hundred ninety‐eight (399) teams were drawn last Sunday and placed into brackets for the 107th Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.
Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, February 28, and run through Saturday, March 4, with the regional round slated for March 11 and semi‐states on March 18.
The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 25.
In Class 3A, 101 teams are entered in the tournament, with New Prairie drawn in Sectional 19 at Jimtown.
SECTIONAL 19 PREVIEW
New Prairie will have plenty of opportunities to avenge losses to Northern Indiana Conference foes in the top half of the bracket.
The Cougars will open up sectional play against Mishawaka Marian (12-9). The Knights defeated New Prairie, 59-49, very early in the season on December 6.
South Bend St. Joseph (5-14) drew a bye and will await the winner in Friday's semi-finals. New Prairie dropped a close one to the Indians, 42-37, on February 2.
Class 3A's second-ranked team, Culver Academy (17-2) received the bye on the bottom half of the bracket. The Eagles will play the winner of Tuesday's other game between John Glenn (8-13) and the host Jimtown (3-17).
