Christmas Greetings from Hudson Lake Mennonite Church

The Advent/Christmas/Epiphany invitation at Hudson Lake Mennonite this season has been to walk The Holy Way - the way of God’s heart. The “way of God” has a double meaning of walking. It can be an image of walking the way someone else walks – sort of copying them. It can also refer to walking as a journey or pilgrimage. Either usage invites us to consider God’s heart as the starting point for all of what the kingdom is and the starting point for our own walk. If we do that, then when we walk in the way of God’s heart, we are co-creating the reign of God here on earth. Each Sunday of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany consider as aspects of God’s heart: Advent 1 – God’s peace is at hand. Come, walk in the way of God’s heart; Advent 2 – God’s harmony is at hand. Come, walk in the way of God’s heart; Advent 3 – God’s healing is at hand. Come, walk in the way of God’s heart; Advent 4 – God’s restoration is at hand. Come, walk in the way of God’s heart; Christmas – Jesus is born! Come, walk in the way of God’s heart; Epiphany – God’s day of radiance is at hand. Come, walk in the way of God’s heart. Jesus was born in a political time that had similarities to the political times we are in right now. Into that hot political climate, God came as a baby – as if to say – look, see – this is what my heart is like. Try walking this way. Let that guide and inform your actions towards one another. While there is more to God’s heart than we cover in Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, if we can walk in the way of these six aspects – we will be an extension of God’s heart to others in a way that is bigger than the climate around us. It will be a holy way. May it be so. Hudson Lake Mennonite Church will be having a candlelight Christmas Eve service, Dec. 24th at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time (5:00 p.m. Central Time). All are welcome.
