Celebrating Veterans Day November 11, 2016
All of our local Veterans and so many more all around the USA deserve our thanks and honor this Veterans Day and every day. We can never thank them enough for their many sacrifices they have made for our country.
The New Carlisle American Legion’s numerous and continuous activities caring for our community is enormous. They include Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Dyngus Day Dinner, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, Installation of Officers, Annual Picnic, Yearly Meetings at local Nursing Homes, Annual Cabin Fever Party, Children’s Halloween Costume Party, Veterans Day Program at New Prairie High School, Lunch and War Stories with Veterans at Miller’s Merry Manor on Veterans Day, a Veterans Day Dinner Celebration at the Post, Annual Feather Party, Children’s Christmas Party celebrated with gifts, candy and Santa Claus. Post Members with Ladies Auxiliary, & Sons of the Legion purchase Christmas gifts for Veterans at both Miller’s Merry Manor and Hamilton Grove Communities, Fish Fry twice monthly with other food, Annual Steak Fry & Raffle, Military Funeral Detail, & Sons of American Legion Chile Cook-Off.
Next time you drive by our American Legion Post 297, you may notice how beautiful the building looks with their newly installed roof. John Colanese and Gary Lawson were a major help in setting up the heavy rubber roofing rolls in order to begin the work. Legion members Larry Brown and Kelly Bridges worked from beginning to end along with Jim Staatz who helped a great deal as well. Jason Quirk was a big assist as was Perry Hinton. All very impressive!
The United States Congress chartered the American Legion in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help wartime veteran’s organization. The organization has quite an interesting history and will be shared in the next New Carlisle Gazette. The above photo story is the beginning of a series on all of New Carlisle’s Town Departments and Organizations that service the town in various ways.
