William B. James, 1927-2016


Mr. William (Bill) B. James, 89, of Rolling Prairie died Sunday, October 9, 2016 after a short illness. He was born on July 3, 1927 in Evansville, Indiana to George and Maryanna (Bolin) James, and lived most of his life in La Porte, Indiana. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and a life member of the VFW Post 1130. Bill was a refrigeration technician for twenty (20) years with Curtis Refrigeration and then worked in maintenance at LaPorte Hospital, retiring in 1990.

On February 18, 1961 he married Carol (Biddle) James who survives. Also surviving is daughter Carolyn (Michael) Riggs of Castle Rock, Colorado; and sons, Bill M. (Leis) James of Rolling Prairie, Indiana and Brian L. James of Elkhart, Indiana; grandchildren, Michele (Tony) Orndorff of Terre Haute, Indiana, Brittany (Zack) Young of Mooresville, North Carolina, Alexzandrea Nemmers of Parker, Colorado, Jeremy Campbell of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; and four great grandchildren; and sister, Jowanna Walker of Springfield, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Beth Ann Slater, a brother, Herbert James, sisters, Elda Mae Varga and Linda Lorig, and a step-brother, James Smith and step-sister, Alice Corrigan.

Visitation was held from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, ESSLING CHAPEL, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home where family and friends visited one hour prior to the funeral. Burial took place in Patton Cemetery in La Porte, with military honors.
