Jan Winters, 74, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away as the result of a car pedestrian accident in New Carlisle, Indiana. Jan was born February 5, 1942, in Springfield, Illinois to Gordon Abbott and Nona Moor.
Jan is survived by a daughter, Kimberlea (Roger) Daggy of Lyndhurst, Virginia; sons, Drake (Mary) Winters of Chicago, Illinois, and Eric Winters of Flagstaff, Arizona; grandchildren, Harry, India, and Ian Winters, and Maximilian and Celia Daggy; and a sister, Sue (Robert) Vorreyer of Greensboro, Georgia. Her parents and a sister, June Beilke, preceded her in death.
Jan was a registered nurse, and spent most of her career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse. Prior to moving to Indiana in 2004, she lived in Queen Creek, Arizona, and worked as a charge nurse for Phoenix Children's Hospital and Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Jan was a member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in La Porte, Indiana, where she served as a Senior Warden, Junior Warden and a member of the Vestry. She was a member of the choir and the altar guild, taught Vacation Bible School, was a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a Lector, took communion to home-bound parishioners and was in charge of church receptions. Jan also volunteered in the emergency room at IU Health-La Porte hospital and the La Porte County Historical Society, and recently became a mentor at Hanley School.
A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1000 Michigan Avenue, La Porte, Indiana 46350. Memorial contributions can be made in Jan's name to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, directed to the choir, altar guild and children's ministry.
