In a game with the Northern Indiana Conference Southern Division title at stake, the Cougars came up short against the No. 3 team in Class 3A.

After Marian took advantage of a first quarter turnover, Nick Wilson scored from 60 yards out and Seth Ackerson's extra point tied the game. It was the first time all season Marian had given up points in the first quarter.

Another New Prairie turnover in the third quarter allowed the Knights to score and take a 14-7 lead before Ruiz returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Ackerson's 28-yard field goal with 5:20 left in the game gave New Prairie the lead at 17-14.
But Marian drove 65 yards and won the game in the final minute.

The Cougars drove down to the Marian 40 on their final drive, but time ran out before the Cougars could get a final play off.
