Richard Allen (Rick) Smith, 73, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016.
He was born in South Bend, Indiana, on January 26, 1943, to Betty and the late Robert Smith. Rick graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1961 and later entered the Army, where he was stationed in Honolulu during the Vietnam War. His wife, Paulette, preceded him in death.
Rick remained in Hawaii after his honorable discharge from the Army, where he enjoyed careers as a food truck owner, assistant golf pro, and long-time business owner. He was an avid scrabble player and forty year member of the Honolulu Country Club; he loved a good joke and was a generous host to his friends and family.
Rick is survived by his mother, Betty Smith of La Porte; brothers Robert (Gloria) Smith, of Houston, TX; James Smith, of La Porte, IN; and John (Mary) Smith, of Rolling Prairie, IN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rick was buried in Punch Bowl Cemetery in Honolulu in a service with military honors.
