Wild About Reading at NCPL

We were Wild about Reading at the New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library this summer. The library was filled with beautifully painted wild animals including life sized elephants, monkeys and tigers. They were loaned to us by local artist Sue Thompson. Over 300 people participated in our summer reading program. Children recorded how many hours they read to earn jungle bucks and teens/adults kept track of how many books they read for entry into a weekly drawing for gift cards to local businesses. The children read for 1,373 hours total! Teens and adults together read over 500 books! What a great summer of reading. The library also hosted events for children such as summer movies, magicians, Potawatomi Zoo and gardening club. Adults were welcome to join us for an art journaling class and a weekly coloring club. Teens participated in events like tie-dying, water fun and helping at Miller’s Merry Manor. A big thank you to the New Carlisle-Olive Township Friends of the Library for providing the prizes. Be sure to visit our website www.ncpl.lib.in.us to see all the fun events we have planned for the fall. Our winter reading program is just around the corner!
