New Carlisle is once again the center of the wiffleball universe, as a record number of teams will descend upon the town with the hopes of capturing the sport's most prestigious trophy — the Hometown Cup.
Pool play rounds begin on Saturday at 10:00am EDT at the New Prairie Little League Complex.
Dana Groves and Bob Middlebrook will throw out the ceremonial first pitches, while members from Down By The Dock will perform the National Anthem.
Each team will play four games on Saturday, with the top 48 teams qualifying for Sunday's Hometown Cup Playoffs. The Playoffs will begin at 8:00am EDT.
The top four teams will advance on to the Hometown Cup Finals at historic Migley Field. The first semifinal game is scheduled to start at 1:20pm EDT.
All games prior to the Hometown Cup Finals will be played at the New Prairie Little League complex. The complex will be home to 20 wiffleball fields.
CULT WEST DOMINANCE
The bullseye rests squarely on the backs of the Cult West Warriors, the three-time defending champions.
In 2015, Cult West capped a 9-0 weekend by defeating the hometown New Carlisle Newts in the title game, 11-8, at a raucous Migley Field.
The Warriors have won an incredible 25 straight games at Hometown Days, with their last loss coming in the first game of pool play in 2013.
Cult West has made four consecutive trips to Migley Field, having advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Championship.
The Warriors are led by captain Scott Soos. Joining him are Jay Ryans, Danny Hernandez, Matt Soos, and Wes Ellis.
Ten ORWBL franchises will be represented, with each expecting to contend for the crown. The Newts have reached the Hometown Cup Finals the past two years, while the Maple City Magic have been to Migley three out of the past four.
South Bend's Clutch Players have reached Wiffle®Ball's Grandest Stage in each of their three tournament appearances, including the past two years.
The Clutch Players finished first in the Grand Slam standings last season, an accumulation of points earned through four tournaments in the Michiana area, including The Championship.
