Head-scratching fun had by all at trivia night

Trivia buffs gathered at the American Legion on Saturday, April 30 to take part in the annual Hometown Days Trivia Night fundraiser.

Eleven teams of ten players each competed for a cash prize and more importantly, bragging rights, in a contest featuring categories such as animated character voices, band members, and what proved to be a brutally difficult test of state flag knowledge.

New Prairie football broadcaster Ken Peterson was the emcee for the evening, giving his famous factoids as he led the audience through the rounds of trivia.

Between rounds, guests were kept on their toes with some 50/50 games, including identifying Batman or Superman villains. Hometown Days committee president Doug Vaundry was able to confuse all but one person with his patented “Simon Says” routine. (If you missed out at Trivia Night, be sure to catch it in Memorial Park during Hometown Days.)

A cash bar benefitted the American Legion, while proceeds from the trivia contest and piggy raffles will be used to fund the 2016 Hometown Days festival. Most notably, the event helps the committee put on the spectacular Friday night fireworks show.

The winning trivia team with a total score of 86 out of a possible 100 points was Table 6, consisting of: Garrett, Gary and Tara Curless, Angie and Chris Deutscher, Matt and Monica Flagg, Tyler Hora, and Kaylor Keck.

Hometown Days would like to thank the following businesses for their donations to the piggy raffle: American Legion Post 297, Andy’s Furniture, April Rollf (Perfectly Posh), Barb VanWynsberghe (Proforma), Billy Goat 9 & Dine, Black Cat, Carlisle Coffee & Sweets, Chicago Bears, Fringe Boutique, Gaddis Construction, Groceries by Joe, Jessica Feathers (Thirty One), Liz Vandemark (Scentsy), M&M Income Tax, New Carlisle United Methodist Church, Niles Haunted House, Red Hen Turf Farm, Richards Building Supply of Michigan City, Village Florist.

Dr. Marty Langhofer, Western Veterinary Clinic, provided the projector and screen to display the questions. While Tammy Bealor of A Unique Catering Affair supplied the concessions for the evening.

The 2016 Hometown Days festival will be held Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31. For more information on the festival activities, including a schedule of events and list of attractions, check out www.hometowndays.net.
