Help raise the roof
One of the most prominent service groups in town is now looking for help from the community it has served for many years.
American Legion Post 297 is in desperate need of a roof replacement.
While a local roofing contractor has offered to assist with volunteered labor, the Legion still has some work to do to get the project in motion.
The project will take 4,800 square feet of 60 mil rubber roof material, estimated to cost around $5,000.
Manpower is also needed to clear the roof of gravel and rock ballast that is currently up there. Much of the Legion’s membership is not physically capable of doing that type of labor intensive work.
“The Legion has been a fixture in the community for a lot of years and hopefully will be for many more,” said Commander Larry Brown.
The American Legion is active in various events throughout the year, many of which, like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, are hosted at the Post.
The Post also provides a venue for other community groups to hold events as well.
The Legion is the largest lobby group in the United States on behalf of veteran’s affairs and encourages veterans to continue their service through community service.
