New Prairie Little League opened up its 22nd season of play on Saturday, April 30 in New Carlisle.
The weather was not very cooperative for baseball and softball. However, a few ballgames were able to be played before the cold and rain washed out much of the afternoon events.
In conjunction with the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church, the Little League held a food drive benefitting the local food pantry as part of the Opening Day festivities.
With 359 children in the program, ages 4-14, Opening Day marked the first of many Saturdays where the complex will be packed with ballplayers and spectators.
Games will also be played during the week throughout the spring and summer. Schedules can be found at www.newprairielittleleague.com.
Cougars Palace Ice Cream Shop will be hosting a give back weekend in support of the Little League on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15.
Give back hours are 2pm to 11pm EDT on Saturday and 2pm to 9pm EDT on Sunday.
Twenty-percent of all sales during those two days will be donated to the Little League, if customers present the give back coupon when purchasing their ice cream.
