Softball knocks off St. Joe
The New Prairie softball team improved their record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northern Indiana Conference with a victory over South Bend St. Joseph, 13-9 at Ziolkowski Field.
The Cougars pounded out 20 hits in the ballgame, including three from starting pitcher Ashlyn Kopinski. In addition to driving in three runs at the plate, Kopinski struck out six while picking up the win in the circle. Alaynna Rodriguez homered for the Cougars and finished the day with three RBI.
Entering the game, New Prairie and St. Joseph were both ranked sixth in the Class 3A ICGSA Coaches Poll, released on April 11. St. Joseph had previously been the state’s top ranked team going into the season. New Prairie is back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at Chesterton, beginning at 10:00am CDT.
