SOUTH BEND- Playing in its first Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) baseball game in school history, New Prairie dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, to South Bend St. Joseph on Wednesday, April 13.
The Cougars claimed the only run of the game until the seventh inning. Ben McDonald plated Drew Lambert in the third with a sacrifice fly to right .
Kadin Abegg took the loss for New Prairie, despite throwing six shutout innings before running into trouble in the seventh.
A leadoff walk turned into the tying run and then St. Joseph’s Ryan Mannell singled home the winning run to keep the Indians undefeated on the young season.
Along with Lambert’s third inning single, Bryce Bloode, Evan Knowlton, and Addison Kuntz accounted for the four New Prairie hits.
