Slicers 11, Cougars 5

LAPORTE- New Prairie opened up its 2016 varsity baseball season on Tuesday, March 29, with a loss to rival LaPorte at Schreiber Field.

The Cougars were paced by Bryce Bloode, who went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles.

La Porte led 2-0 heading into the fourth inning, when Addison Kuntz lined a single into left field, scoring Mason Workman and cutting the deficit to one.

That was as close as New Prairie would get, as the Slicers answered with eight runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

New Prairie put up three runs in the top of the fifth, as one of Bloode’s doubles drove in a run.

Justin Cromey took the loss on the mound for the Cougars. Cromey allowed six runs over 3 1/3 innings work. It was the first game for the Cougars under new coach Mark Schellinger, who was facing his alma mater.
