NEW CARLISLE - New Prairie (1-1) bounced back from an Opening Day loss with a 10-0 victory over Michigan City Marquette on Wednesday, March 30, in the home opener at Harry “Bear” Tolmen Field.
The game was called due to weather in the bottom half of the fourth.
Kadin Abegg tossed four innings of one-hit baseball, striking out five to pick up the victory for the Cougars.
After a scoreless first inning for both clubs, New Prairie took control of the ballgame with six runs in the second. The rally was keyed by a three-run double off the bat of Dylan Kegley.
Kegley also doubled in the fourth inning, eventually leading to the tenth New Prairie run, as courtesy runner Connor VanOverberghe on an Evan Knowlton double just before the game was called.
On the basepaths, Zack Ketterer swiped four bases, giving him six steals in the first two games.
